WOLVERTON PLANS

PLANS FOR WOLVERTON

The Museum has a large collection of plans and maps of Wolverton from the mid 19th to late 20th centuries.

These show how Wolverton grew and changed after the opening of Wolverton Works in 1838 through to the 1950s.

Many of the plans show details of proposed additions to Wolverton Works while others cover plans for new housing and other buildings in the rest of the town.

THE DATABASE

The Museum is creating an online database and archive of these plans and maps. The long term objective is to make these fragile documents available in digital format for research or general interest. This will protect the paper originals and enable us to share these important historical documents with many more people than would otherwise be possible.

The images have been scanned at very high resolution to capture as much detail as possible. This means that the original scans are too large to view or deliver electronically.

Instead the database provides access to a low resolution version designed to fit on to a conventional screen size, typically 600 to 800 pixels wide. Heights vary depending on the format of the original documents.

DIGITAL IMAGES AND SCANS

The first set of scans were created as part of the Museum's participation in the Milton Keynes Heritage Gateway Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and managed by Milton Keynes Heritage Association.

More documents will be added to the database as we work through the maps and plans.

We cannot supply copies of the digitised plans by email or via the website at present due to the large file size. However, we will be pleased to advise on how we can supply the high resolution version of any image listed on the database if you Contact Us.
